Logistics Development and Marketing

Purpose

The NTC Logistics Development and Marketing Committee was created in 1994 to develop strategies and programs to market the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex as a key logistics center of the Americas and to address areas of possible improvement in the region’s infrastructure.

Background

A group of representatives from the North Texas logistics industry and the broader business community make up the Logistics Committee. Cities, businesses and educational institutions from the D/FW Metroplex are represented on the committee.

NTC commissioned C.F. Lynch and Associates to research and complete An Analysis of the Dallas/ Fort Worth Metroplex as a North American Distribution Center. The study summarized the assets and areas of possible improvement of the D/FW Metroplex as a logistics center and served as a starting point for the work of the Logistics Committee. From this study a 20-page logistics marketing brochure was developed and distributed widely around the country and globally.

In 2006 CF Lynch and Associates was again commissioned to do another research study of the assets and areas of poossible improvements of the DFW Metroplex as a supply chain center and compare out area with other logistic centers. The results are in the year 2007 updates brochure.

Accomplishments and Future Goals

  • Marketing Brochures: More than 60,000 copies of NTC’s logistics marketing brochures have been distributed in the U.S. and in foreign markets. Dallas/Fort Worth: Logistics Center of the Americas is available for download from the NTC website (download). As is the year 2007 updates version "Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex: America’s Global Logistics Center"
  • Logistics Trade Shows: The committee was largely responsible for attracting the International Intermodal Expo to the D/FW Metroplex in 1998. The committee will work to secure additional logistics events for the region
  • Freeport Exemptions: More than 30 additional entities in the Metroplex used the local option and adopted the Freeport Tax Exemption in recent years bringing the total in the region to 103 out of a possible 303. The committee will continue to assist, when requested, with the adoption of Freeport Tax Exemptions
  • Logistics Education: The committee assisted UNT in the creation of a logistics BBA degree which it offered for the first time in fall 1997. Now, the program is one of the top six programs in the country. The committee continues to support activities at UNT as well as TCU and other college and university logistics education efforts in the region.

The Logistic Committe has several task forces (Marketing, Workforce, Summit) to address issues that need attention for DFW Metroplex to be a leading logistics and supply chain center.
