North Texas Commission honors regional transportation agencies, leaders with 12th annual TEAM award

August 17th, 2010

North Texas Tollway Authority Chairman Paul N. Wageman and Denton County Transportation Authority honored for commitment to transit solutions

The North Texas Commission (NTC) presents its 12th Transportation Excellence Award in Mobility (TEAM) to a regional transportation leader, Paul N. Wageman, and transit agency Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) on Wednesday, Aug. 18. Wageman receives the individual TEAM award and DCTA receives the TEAM organization award.

As Chairman of the North Texas Tollway Authority, Wageman was instrumental in overseeing the organization during a period of incredible growth. During his tenure, the NTTA System doubled in size with the opening of the Sam Rayburn Tollway, Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge and several extensions of the Dallas North Tollway and President George Bush Turnpike. Wageman led the charge to develop SH 121 (Sam Rayburn Tollway) which resulted in the NTTA making a $3.2 billion payment which is funding non-tolled projects across North Texas. The NTTA’s transaction to all-electronic toll collection also occurred during Wageman’s tenure as board chairman. In addition to serving the NTTA, Wageman is a former board member of the North Texas Commission, was the Lieutenant Governor’s appointee to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission, former president and member of the board of directors of the Dallas Assembly and former board member of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce. Wageman, the NTTA’s longest serving board member, recently announced he will not seek another board term.

The Denton County Transportation Authority receives the 2010 TEAM organization award for the nine-year-old agency’s continued ridership growth and construction of the highly anticipated A train connecting Denton with Dallas with just one transfer. The 21-mile regional rail line was initiated in May 2006 and in 2008, the project was environmentally cleared and the Regional Transportation Commission approved funding. Construction of the line is expected to be completed in Spring 2011.

“Honoring Paul Wageman of NTTA and the Denton County Transportation Authority demonstrates the significant strides being made in regional transportation,” said Mabrie Jackson, President and CEO of the North Texas Commission. “We appreciate the commitment of these individuals and organizations to the growth of North Texas.”
