Irving, April 17 — The North Texas Commission (NTC), in partnership with FORTUNE magazine, will host the North Texas Commission Fortune 500 Luncheon to honor all FORTUNE 500 companies headquartered in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The 2007 FORTUNE 500 list was released Mon., April 16 on the FORTUNE magazine Web site at www.fortune.com, and the recognition luncheon will be held Fri., April 20 at the Hilton Anatole at 2201 Stemmons Freeway in Dallas.

The luncheon features keynote speaker, Geoff Colvin, senior editor-at-large with FORTUNE magazine and special guest, David Johnson, business analyst for KRLD News Radio 1080 and WFAA-TV Channel 8.

Research compiled by the North Texas Commission confirms that the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex has set a record high with FORTUNE 500 companies, reaching a new corporate count of 24. In July of 1955, FORTUNE magazine produced its first directory of biggest companies representing all industrial sectors, which became known as the FORTUNE 500. Up from 22 headquarters in the 2006 rankings, this historical record is attributed to the gain of two firms: Gamestop, headquartered in Grapevine and XTO Energy headquartered in Fort Worth.

The 24 corporate headquarters in Dallas/Fort Worth have helped position Texas as the number two state in the nation with the most FORTUNE 500 companies with 56 headquarters. The 2007 list, in ranking order, for North Texas includes ExxonMobil (2), AMR (101), Electronic Data Systems (111), J.C. Penney (116), Kimberly-Clark (137), Centex (153), D.R. Horton (155), Burlington Northern Santa Fe (157), Texas Instruments (162), Fluor (174), TXU (234), Dean Foods (246), Tenet Healthcare (258), Southwest Airlines (276), Energy Transfer Equity (306), Commercial Metals (316), Celanese (346), Atmos Energy (372), Blockbuster (410), Triad Hospitals (417), Affiliated Computer Services (424), Gamestop (426), Radioshack (466) and XTO Energy (482).
