5.23.07 Arlington, May 23 — The 2011 Super Bowl will be played at the Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium in Arlington, Texas, where more than 100,000 fans will be able to watch the NFL’s Super Bowl XLV. The site of the 2011 Super Bowl was decided at the owners’ meetings in Nashville on May 22, 2007. As a regional effort, the North Texas Commission (NTC) was the central meeting ground for the Super Bowl Bid Committee. Four members of the NTC’s Executive Committee also participated as members of the Super Bowl Bid Committee. Those individuals are: H. Dan Farell, TXU and NTC Chairman; Wendy Lopez, LOPEZGARCIA Group; Mayor Robert Cluck, City of Arlington; and Dan S. Petty, NTC’s president and CEO. “Bringing the Super Bowl to North Texas is a classic example of regional cooperation and we are proud to be a part of this regional effort,” Petty said. Cities across North Texas came together, with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Hall of Famer Roger Staubach, to pitch the Metroplex and the new stadium as the ideal location to host Super Bowl XLV. The game will be played on February 7, 2011. The Cowboys’ $1 billion stadium is scheduled to open in 2009 and will provide 27,000 more seats than those in Indianapolis or Arizona - the other Super Bowl contenders. The new retractable-roof stadium will be the largest venue for a Super Bowl since 1993 when the game was played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California... ”Everything is bigger in Texas.” In addition, the North Texas infrastructure was certainly a positive factor for the final decision. The new cowboys stadium will hold 100,000 fans, and far more visitors than that will flock to North Texas for Super Bowl XLV and the week of events that will precede it. Not only will the Super Bowl bring the world’s attention to the Metroplex, but it also expects to bring an estimated $400 million into the region. Established in 1971, the North Texas Commission is a regional non-profit consortium of businesses, cities, counties, chambers of commerce, economic development entities and higher education institutions in the North Texas Region. The Commission is the one and only public-private regional organization committed to enhancing the overall economic vitality and quality of life of North Texas. NTC improves the economy, infrastructure and lifestyle of North Texas by leading and directing regionally cooperative initiatives to accomplish objectives in four primary areas: transportation, aviation, environment and long-range strategies. |
