Our Mission

The North Texas Commission is a public-private partnership dedicated to advancing the vibrancy of the North Texas region.

Welcome to North Texas! If you’re reading this, you might fall into one of two camps, someone living in North Texas and someone exploring a relocation to the region. If you live here, we’re glad you’re here.

But if you’re like the thousands of people flocking to our region on a monthly basis, let me tell you about this dynamic place we call home.

North Texas is a 13-county region of 7.5 million people – and counting with 1 new person added every 4 minutes. We’re anchored by the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth with 15 cities with a population of more than 100,000 people. Since this organization was formed in 1971, the population of the region grew by 5 million people – that’s greater than today’s population of 29 of the 50 states. Geographically, North Texas is 9,000 square miles, larger than the states of New Jersey and Connecticut.

Strong Workforce
North Texas is home to the most diverse economy in Texas, and is the 4th fastest growing region in the U.S. Our job growth outpaces the U.S. at 3.6 percent, and we have a labor force that is 3.5 million strong. From aviation to energy, healthcare to manufacturing and logistics, North Texas is home to a broad, encyclopedic economy.

Center of the U.S.
Real estate professionals live by the mantra, “Location, Location, Location.” You can say that is also a possible slogan for North Texas. Four hours from either coast and accessible by direct flights from nearly 60 international destinations, North Texas is the perfect location for business travelers and logistics and supply chain professionals. More than 647,000 tons of air cargo flows through DFW Airport annually. A robust Interstate highway network and three Class 1 railroads rounds out the delivery of goods.

Quality of life
Sure, it’s a great place to work, but North Texas is also a great place to play. Moderate weather and an average of 223 sunny days ensures plenty of time for outside activities. We always have a home team to cheer for with 13 professional sports teams. And, strong arts districts in both Dallas and Fort Worth provides ample opportunities to enjoy the more than 6,000 arts and cultural events held annually in North Texas.

Great People
There’s an old saying, “If you want something done, tell a Texan they can’t do it.” The tenacity of Texans – new and native – is unparalleled. The labor force is North Texas is strong and well-educated. And, with a median age of 35, they are young and energetic. Innovation is in our blood, whether it’s game-changing technology or life-saving medical advances, North Texans have a heart as big as our state with an unrivaled intellect.

These are just a few of the reasons that more than 2,000 people are added to our population every week. If you need more information about the strength of the North Texas region, please take a look at our North Texas Profile.

Reach out to any newly relocated company or our strong economic development community and they’ll tell you there’s something magical about North Texas. I hope you’ll come share in the magic.
