NTC Board Passes Resolution to Support Proposition 4

The Board of Directors of the North Texas Commission passed a resolution during its September board meeting urging voters to support Proposition 4 on the Nov. 3, 2009, ballot.

Proposition 4 is one of 11 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution on the ballot for the Nov. 3 election. This amendment establishes the National Research University Fund to enable emerging research universities to achieve national prominence as major research universities and transfers the balance of the higher education fund to the national research university fund.

Three North Texas universities – the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Texas at Dallas – will each in time benefit from the passage of Proposition 4 in terms of infrastructure development to encourage an entrepreneurial culture. The North Texas region will benefit from gains in economic development opportunities and global competitiveness that are currently lost to other regions that cultivate their research institutions.

“Proposition 4 is one of the most critical amendments to the future growth of the North Texas region,” said Dan S. Petty, president and CEO of the North Texas Commission. “Passage of Proposition 4 has the potential to help Texas recruit top-level scholars and researchers, as well as retain more of the 10,000-plus talented Texas high school graduates going to out-of-state universities each year.”

Proposition 4 will be on voter ballots across North Texas and the state for voters during the Nov. 3, 2009, election. Click here for more information on Proposition 4.
