The North Texas Commission would like you to nominate a regional superhero to be featured at its Annual Members’ Luncheon on Sept. 28 at the Irving Convention Center.
The NTC will celebrate its 40th anniversary by recognizing the superheroes that have redefined and shaped our region over that time. These superheroes can be defined as any person, organization, project or event over the last 40 years that has played a significant role in influencing North Texas.

The Texas Legislature convened in a special session to address the fiscal matters bill, school finance and health care issues that will allow the Comptroller to certify the budget for the next biennium, beginning Sept. 1. The NTC would like to recognize the newly elected officials across North Texas who took office following the May elections and June runoffs.
New mayors or city council members were elected in 25 of the 39 NTC member municipalities, with many members having multiple leadership changes to their local governments.

DCTA’s A-train service adds to the extensive passenger rail expansion in North Texas.
The Denton County Transportation Authority recently launched service for its A-train, a regional passenger rail line serving Denton County residents and visitors.
The 21-mile rail line runs from Downtown Denton to Carrollton, following along the east side of I-35E. Passengers can connect to DART’s Green Line at the Trinity Mills Station in Carrollton.

The North Texas region boasted 20 companies on the recently released 2011 Fortune 500 list.
Research compiled by the North Texas Commission confirms that the 20 Fortune 500 companies ranks the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area No. 4 in the nation among metro areas with the most headquartered companies. The region lost five companies and added one from last year’s total of 24 Fortune 500 companies. The lone newcomer is Fort Worth’s D.R. Horton.

InterLink has released the 2011-2016 Targeted Occupations that were identified as high demand by regional employers in the 2011 Annual North Central Texas Labor Market Survey. The survey, which is conducted by InterLink each year, is used to provide guidance to the Career and Technical Programs at high school and community colleges which will introduce skills and knowledge to prepare students for future regional careers. Cooksey earns small business award
For the second year in a row, NTC member Cooksey Communications was named a "Blue Ribbon" winner for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's prestigious "Small Business of the Year" competition.
Texas tops business rankings
Texas was ranked No. 1 by Chief Executive magazine in its annual report on the best and worst states to do business. The top ranking marks the seventh-straight year in which Texas has led all states.
Freese and Nichols acquires energy firm
Freese and Nichols has acquired Nicol & Associates, a Richardson-based oil and gas facilities engineering consulting company. Fort Worth-based Freese and Nichols Inc. plans to expand the company's operations in the energy market and natural gas facilities engineering.
Safety emphasized as purpose of Atmos Energy's new center
Atmos Energy Corp. opened its new Charles K. Vaughan Center, a $12.9 million facility located on nearly 11 acres in Plano. The center will serve customers in North Dallas and the northern suburbs, and it will be a training hub for Atmos employees, utilizing a replica of a neighborhood on which technicians will train for various types of natural gas installations.

This coming September, The Economic Observer of China is featuring a special section on Texas. This is a great opportunity to promote North Texas to a quickly growing business environment.
