Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month

Since 2014, June has been recognized as Immigrant Heritage Month. This initiative encourages all Americans to celebrate our shared heritage as an immigrant nation and recognize the significant contributions immigrants have made – and continue to make. The North Texas Commission is proud to celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month and support the North Texas immigrants who help our region thrive.

At the North Texas Commission, we work tirelessly with partnering national advocacy organizations to help drive policy that benefits and protects our immigrant workforce and population. Unfortunately, many of the immigration policies we have seen in recent years ignore and do not reflect the longstanding history and value of immigration in our country. Today, immigrants living in North Texas contribute greatly to the economy. According to an analysis released by FWD.US, immigrants now make up nearly a quarter of Texas’ labor force. With more than 3.3 million workers, Texas has the nation’s second-largest immigrant labor force after California. It is now more critical than ever that we pursue immigration policies and initiatives that safeguard the rights of immigrants and capitalize on the energy and expertise they bring to our local communities.

Contributions from immigrants are not limited to the economy. Immigrant populations have shaped and molded the cultural landscape of our region into what we see today. We encourage you to join us in celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month. For more information on how to participate, visit https://www.iamanimmigrant.com/.
