Jim Cline, President, Denton County Transportation Authority
Jim Cline is a registered Professional Engineer and previously worked for Kimley Horn and Associates, and has over 20 years of municipal Public Works/Transportation experience at the Cities of Beaumont, TX and Irving, TX. Jim retired from the Texas Army National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel with 28 years of military service. He completed a deployment to Afghanistan in 2010/2011, and his military assignments ranged from Engineer Platoon Leader through command of the 386th Engineer Battalion. His military awards include the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit medals. Please take a moment to meet our Board Member, Jim Cline.
What are the three biggest priorities for your company in the future? • Providing convenient and affordable public transportation solutions to Denton County. • Actively responding to the changing landscape of Denton County through planning and development, service enhancements, and community partnerships. • Continually acting as a responsible steward of community and federal funding, and identifying opportunities for additional sustainable funding streams to support a broader service area.
Who has had a tremendous impact on your leadership style? So many individuals have impacted my leadership style. City Managers, like Ray Riley and Steve McCullough, were great mentors throughout my career. I would not be the leader I am today without the opportunity the military experience and its strong leaders offered me during the developmental years of my career.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received? It is amazing what can get done if you do not worry about who gets the credit.
What do you see as the biggest opportunity for our region? With vast growth comes opportunity at many levels. Businesses can capitalize on both a strong work force and a diverse economy.
What do you think our region should focus on for continued success? The North Texas region should focus on improving educational opportunities (primarily K-12), increasing public transportation options for the entire region (filling in the gaps), and providing water infrastructure that will support our growth in the long term. This focus would allow the region to eliminate possible barriers as we continue to grow.
