For today’s Meet our Members, we speak with Chris Felan, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs for Atmos, who shares his thoughts on why North Texas continues its strong growth, what he sees as exciting opportunities for our region and what’s on the horizon for Atmos during the Legislative Session.
North Texas Commission: North Texas continues to stay in the top 3 cities for growth nationally. What factors do you contribute to this domestic migration?
Chris Felan: The principle driver is the strong economy. In addition, people are beginning to recognize North Texas as a cultural destination. The museums, performance halls attracting Broadway plays and the myriad of top restaurants contribute to that recognition. Just as important, North Texas has an excellent quality of life and is a great place to raise a family.
NTC: What are some of the most exciting opportunities for North Texas?
CF: People from all over the country are making North Texas their home. The economy and job growth continues to lead the nation which ultimately provides exciting opportunities for a diverse population.
NTC: What are the most important decisions you make as a leader of your organization?
CF: Our number one priority at Atmos Energy is to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to more than 1.7 million customers in Texas. Each year we remain focused on enhancing the safety and reliability of our natural gas system through infrastructure investment. Working with our public affairs team, I communicate the scope and scale of work being done to modernize our systems to all stakeholders.

NTC: Where is your favorite vacation spot?
Chris Felan: My family and I love the beach. Maui has some of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. Relaxing by ANY beach is invigorating.
NTC: What is your favorite place to visit in the metroplex?
Chris Felan: I am an avid sports fan. I love cheering for the Cowboys, Rangers, Stars and Mavericks (all the home teams!!) at our arenas and stadiums.
NTC: Where is your favorite place to travel?
Chris Felan: I am a huge history buff. My wife and I enjoy ‘disguising’ our trips with the family to places like Washington DC and other similar venues as vacations so our children can also share my passion!
